Castelfranco Veneto, the city of Giorgione

Castelfranco Veneto, the city of Giorgione

The element that most characterizes Castelfranco is the castle, which includes the historic center. Defended by high walls, red brick, including six towers, four of which are on the vertices of the square base of 232 m on each side, one on the south median (Padua), converted into a bell tower of the Cathedral, the other on the middle east ( towards Treviso). From a drawing preserved in the Public Library you can see a total of seven towers. The last post was knocked down on the median west (towards the Cittadella).

Castelfranco is known around the world for being the birthplace of Giorgione, a painter who lived between 1477 and 1510. And it is possible to visit the house of the artist and, in the Cathedral, to admire the famous Pala di Castelfranco.
